Travel Guide: Food, Glorious Food
Updated: Jun 17, 2019
Staying at the Ibis Styles Bangkok Khaosan Viengtai, Delegates will be spoiled for choice when it comes to amazing food. We have selected a few of our favourites, but there are literally thousands of options!
BEST PIZZA IN BANGKOK
Ranee’s Restaurant prides themselves on having the best wood fired pizza in Bangkok. They also serve pasta that's handmade daily, and Thai and fusion dishes if you would like to try some local-style cuisine.
You’ll find it easy to relax into the vibes of Ranee’s, with chilled music and good food. We suggest any of the pizzas, or the fried rice!
Ranee’s Restaurant is a 4 minute walk from Ibis Styles Bangkok Khaosan Viengtai.
Jay Fai is the star of Netflix’s new show, Street Food. Her one-star Michelin Restaurant, Raan Jay Fai, is famous for khai jeaw poo – a crab omelette.
Jay Fai’s cooking has attracted food enthusiasts from all over the world, but this recognition comes with a literal cost; you will pay 1,000 Baht for a khai jeaw poo!
If you choose to visit Raan Jay Fai, we suggest that you email ahead of time for a reservation. Customers that arrive on the day have to put their name on a walk-in-list, and many are turned away.
If you are interested in tasting the now internationally recognised omelette, Jay Fai has mentioned that she has no intentions of passing on the business – so don’t miss out!
Raan Jay Fai is a 20-minute walk from Ibis Styles Bangkok Khaosan Viengtai.
AISYAH ROD DEE
Aisyah Rod Dee is a longstanding Muslim-Thai family restaurant. Sometimes spelled Asia Rot Dee or Aisah Rotdee, the restaurant holds an almost legendary status within the Khao San area for serving cheap Halal food.
Admittedly, this restaurant can be hard to find. We suggest using the below photo to find the shop front; there is a simple Thai sign out the front, leading to a narrow alley that opens up to a courtyard. When you’re ready to order, you could consider fan-favourite, khao mok gai - chicken biryani.
If this restaurant isn’t your style, there are many Halal street-food options near the hotel!
How to find it: On Thanon Tani, west of the Rambuttri Alley roundabout. It’s down a narrow alley on the southwest side of the street, just steps away from the roundabout. 178 Thanon Tani (corner of Rambutri/Tani).
Aisyah Rod Dee is a 2-minute walk from Ibis Styles Bangkok Khaosan Viengtai.
MANGO is a Thai/Western Fusion restaurant, with clean, wholesome vegan and vegetarian food (there are gluten-free options too). MANGO serves creative dinners, and delicious desserts. With this restaurant only 250m away from the Ibis Styles, we’ll let you explore this one by yourself…
MANGO is a 3-minute walk from Ibis Styles Bangkok Khaosan Viengtai.
After You boasts the most Instagramable desserts in Bangkok! Here, you will be able to try Shibuya Honey Toast, Milk Buns, Crepe Cakes, and their famous Kakigōri.
Kakigōri is a Japanese shaved ice dessert, flavored with sweet toppings. If you like malt (think Maltesers and Milo), then we highly recommend the two-tone Kakigōri! If you visit After You with other Delegates, you will want to order large!
After several visits to After You by the IDF2019 Organising Committee, we can confirm that the two-tone Kakigōri is a crowd favourite.
After You (Tha Maharaj Branch) is a 20-minute walk from Ibis Styles Bangkok Khaosan Viengtai.
We hope that this information provides you with some great food memories to go alongside your International Diplomacy Forum experience.
