Delegation of the European Union to Thailand

Dr Colin Steinbach is the Head of the Political, Press and Information Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Thailand, and previous Head of Political, Press and Information Section/European Union Delegation to Myanmar.

Dr Colin Steinbach has extensive experience in International Relations and Foreign Policy within the European Union External Action Service. Over his career within the European Union, Steinbach has held positions as Political Advisor for Civilian Planning and Conduct Capability, and Officer of Crisis Management and Planning Directorate, at the Council of European Union in Brussels, Belgium.

Graduating with a PHD in International Relations, European Studies, European Security and Defence Policy from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in 2010, with the ability to speak four different languages, over the last decade, Steinbach has developed a successful career dedicated to strengthening diplomatic relations between Europe and the regions of South East Asia and ASEAN.

Delegation of the European Union to Thailand

The Delegation of the European Commission to Thailand was opened in 1979.

Starting from 1 December 2009 with the Lisbon Treaty entering into force, the Delegation of the European Commission was transformed into the Delegation of the European Union to Thailand. The European Union is Thailand's third trading partner and third source of foreign direct investment.

The Delegation's mandate includes the following:

  • To promote the political and economic relations between Thailand and the EU by maintaining extensive relations with governmental institutions and by increasing awareness of the EU, it’s institutions and its programmes;

  • To inform the public of the development of the EU and to explain and defend individual EU policies;

  • To participate in the implementation of the EU's assistance programmes. As partners in issues such as the promotion of Sustainable Development Goals.
